4 Ways to Detect Termite Activity in Mesa AZ

Drywood Termite Infestations- Varsity Termite and Pest ControlTermites can be a really serious problem for your home, and sometimes it can be a little difficult to know if you have an infestation until most of the damage has been already done. The best way to determine if you have an actual termite problem is to have a pest control company come take a look at your home, but there are still a few things you can look for before you contact a Mesa termite inspection service to detect any termite activity.

Mud Tubes

While termite treatment in Mesa might be more likely to focus on the drywood termites, subterranean termites are found throughout the country. These termites enter homes through tunnels that are found in soft earth near the foundation of your home or in your home’s crawl spaces. The tunnels range from the width of a pencil to about an inch wide, and if you break them open you might see these small little cream-colored insects as they move from your home to their nest. If you do not see the termites, the colony who built the tubes is either dead or using a different route into your home.

Blistered Wood

When termites chew into dry wood, they leave a thin veneer that has a very dark and blistered appearance. These blistered areas will be just fragile enough to break when you press on it.

Swarms of Winged Termites

Swarms of winged termites indoors of course almost always mean that you have an infestation inside of your home. Seeing them outdoors may not indicate a problem, but if the swarm is near your home you should be on the lookout for any other signs of an infestation close by. While you look for swarms of termites, you should also be on the lookout for any discarded termite wings. They will be harder for you to see, but exterminators who focus on termite treatment in Mesa will look for them to help decide if you have a termite problem or not.

Termite Droppings

Finally, you can determine if you have a termite problem by looking for termite droppings. These will be very small of course, but finding droppings is almost always a surefire sign that your home has a termite problem. Termite droppings will be the size of a grain of sand and be in tiny little piles, so look closely along blistered wood or in your crawl space inside of your home.

Although you can safely determine you have a termite infestation based on these signs, the only one who can make that final call is a Mesa termite inspection and extermination company. There are plenty out there, so give Varsity Termite and Pest Control a call if you suspect that your home has a termite problem or you want to know anymore information with any questions or concerns you may have about termites.
